Our Story

Emerald Aquaponics is the brainchild of two visionary innovators—Kedar and Charles Carr—whose combined expertise in aquaponics, sustainable urban food production, and regenerative agriculture is transforming how we grow and consume food. Drawing on decades of hands-on experience, the team has collaborated for nearly ten years to design and refine cutting-edge aquaponics systems that merge the art of culinary excellence with eco-friendly technology. Kedar’s journey began with a life-changing meal featuring live tilapia and freshly harvested herbs in Galway, igniting his passion for integrating year-round, nutrient-rich food production into urban landscapes. Charles, an aquarium specialist and free diver who relocated from the Caribbean to Ireland in 1996, has pushed the technical boundaries of aquaculture—conducting feasibility studies on solar greenhouse coral farms and closed-system methods, and advancing regenerative practices through projects like Seahorse Aquariums Galway and Bullaun Ark.

Meet The Team

Charles Carr

Founder & CEO

Charles Car is an aquarium specialist and aquaculture innovator dedicated to “repairing the ocean” and revolutionizing sustainable food production. Since relocating from the Caribbean to Ireland in 1996, he has merged scientific expertise with a passion for 432Hz music to develop unique approaches in aquaculture and regenerative agriculture. In 2009, he led a pioneering study on a passive solar greenhouse coral farm and explored closed-system methods, while his work with Seahorse Aquariums Galway (featured in Netflix’s Seahorseman) and collaborations with leading marine institutes have pushed the field’s boundaries. A passionate free diver, Charles founded Emerald Aquaponics and later launched Bullaun Ark to merge biodynamic farming with aquaponics, creating nature-aligned systems that maximize sustainability and reduce reliance on conventional agriculture.

Associate Director

Kedar is an aquaponics pioneer, culinary enthusiast, and urban sustainability advocate with a passion for transforming food production. His journey began with a life-changing meal of live tilapia and freshly harvested herbs from an aquaponic greenhouse in Galway, sparking his commitment to eco-friendly, year-round production. Over nearly a decade, he has collaborated with Charles to design and refine innovative systems that deliver local, nutrient-rich produce and fish while reshaping urban culinary landscapes. With a background in music, retail entrepreneurship, and hands-on systems integration, Kedar envisions cities evolving into self-sufficient culinary hubs where sustainable technology seamlessly bridges nature and modern living.
